Knifecrime Wordsmiths

Idiomatic expressions in German continues with the German version of the English to shoot oneself in the foot, which is like to cut off one's nose despite one's face. German efficiently consolidates both of these into a single, unified expression: sich ins eigene Fleisch schneiden. To cut one's own flesh.

By all measures, the German expression is more legal (no firearms) and it's much more sensical (no face vs nose rivalry). But, I don't know. It's just not that...artful. To cut one's own flesh. Where's the panache?

One could ask the same to this promising young woman spotted riding the U8. Her nose and both feet remain tastelessly intact.
